May 17th is the Norwegian national day
Everyone is happy in Norway that day
They go in the train in "Bunad",
In their long dresses,
Or wearing their nicest suit
Today it is ok to wear a tie
Actually it is the only day in the year
A man in Norway will feel naked without a tie
Norwegians wave flags today
In ways that only Americans can compete with
Today you are allowed to do everything
Everything you do not allow yourself to do the rest of the year
Drink Champagne from the early morning
Talk loudly, scream and dance
Show the emotions that are trapped deep inside
Meet your friends you haven't seen since New Year's Eve
Today you are allowed to compliment Norwegians without a reason
Especially if they are wearing a Bunad
The 17. mai is a wonderful day in Norway
If you haven't experienced it yet
Come to Norway
And meet all these beautiful Norwegians in Bunad
You won't want to leave again
